Lizzie Borden Lecture in New Hampshire

Dr. Annette Holba will be presenting a lecture titled “Lizzie Borden Took an Axe, or Did She?” on August 8, 2012, at the Epsom Public Library in Epsom, New Hampshire.

Dr. Holba is the author of a book by the same title and a noted scholar and wonderful public speaker. If you are anywhere near this location, I urge you to attend. You will not regret it.

This from the Epsom Public Library’s website:

The library’s Adult Summer Reading Program will conclude with a presentation of “Lizzie Borden Took an Axe, or Did She?” with Dr. Annette Holba leading the discussion on Wednesday, August 8, at 7:00 p.m. The library has received a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities Council to make this presentation possible.

In 1892 Lizzie Borden, a 32-year-old single woman, was officially charged with the murder of her father and stepmother inFall River,Massachusetts. After four official criminal proceedings, Lizzie was acquitted of the murder. The case is a mystery that has inspired documentaries, television movies, plays, musicals, poems, a scholarly journal and law school case studies. Dr. Holba will review the facts and explore evidence that some suggest point to Lizzie’s guilt and others say exonerate her.

Dr. Holba, an assistant professor in the Department of Communication and Media Studies atPlymouthStateUniversity, is a former police detective.
