Dave Quigley

RIP Dave Quigley

I first met Dave Quigley at the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast oh so many years ago. When I knew him, he was the morning cook. In a way, he was the “breakfast” in the bed & breakfast. He would cheerfully show up for work each morning there were guests from the night before and cook them a rather delicious selection of johnny cakes, scrambled eggs, homefries, coffee, toast, and juice. For a time he was the night manager as well.

His brother, the late George Quigley was well known among the Borden crowd—he was one of the original day and cemetery tour guides (dressed as Andrew Borden, of course) with his long-time galpal Kathy (she did the night tours). George moved on to the Maplecroft house when Robert Dube opened it as a B&B for like a minute, and he and Dube sold “authentic” Lizzie Borden items, complete with ridiculous-looking certificates of authenticity in almost unreadable cursive font. Of course, most if not all these “gems” were not authentic or owned by Lizzie, but it didn’t matter. They said so and so it was.

Dave stayed on at the B&B for a long time, retiring a number of years ago in 2009. His retirement was written about by Shelley Dziedzic.

And now he has passed away at the age of 83 (January 20, 2022). His obituary makes no mention of the years he worked at the Lizzie Borden B&B.  You can find it here.

Rest in peace, Dave.

Mondo Lizzie Borden, Episode 7: NOT Lizzie Borden

Being a collector of the weird and fabulous as it relates to the Borden case, I have files of these images saved during the past twenty years. And I would like to share them with you now. Laugh, gasp, chuckle, or rage, these photos were all on eBay. For a price. I used to write the sellers and let them know they didn’t have a Lizzie, but soon gave up on that practice. They didn’t care. Even though they were committing fraud by the sale of the image as a true Lizzie Borden. Oh well.

Here we go. Enjoy.
